THE 5 BEST BEACHES IN CAPE TOWN
Capetonians are fortunate to live in a beautiful city surrounded by stunning beaches. These beaches boast not only long stretches of white-gold sand, but they are also a natural backdrop of towering mountains and cliffs, and if you’re lucky you can catch a beautiful sunset and the perfect selfie during golden hour.
As Summer is swiftly coming to an end, we're trying to make the most of those last sunny days and balmy evenings before the cold winter sets in.
We have curated a list of 5 beaches in Cape Town for you to enjoy the last few beach trips.
Saunders Rock Beach with our Port St John Plakkie Flip-Flops
1. Saunders Rocks
Saunders Rock beach is indeed rocky and is surrounded by breathtaking views and magical sunsets - a perfect venue for a romantic picnic with your loved one. This secluded beach with its tidal pool, is minutes away from local hotspots like the V&A Waterfront, and Sea Point and Camps Bay promenades where you’ll find great cafes, bars, and restaurants to end off a perfect beach trip.
Clifton 4 beach
2. Clifton
Not only is Clifton the name of one of our famous Plakkie styles, it is also a favourite beach spot amongst locals and tourists. Clifton has 4 beach coves separated by giant boulders and filled with soft white sand and majestic blue waters. All 4 coves are privy to a magnificent view of Lion’s Head. Although Clifton is not ideal for swimming because of its icy ocean water, you can still enjoy a relaxing day on one of Clifton’s beaches and hire umbrellas and chairs while sunbathing and watching the tides roll in and out.
Colourful Beach huts on Muizenburg beach
3. Muizenberg
Muizenberg beach is home to all surfers. This beach is the ideal spot for beginner surfers because of the tame waves and slightly warmer water. Muizenberg is famously known for its brightly painted beach huts that are situated along the shoreline. Though the beach and huts are the main attraction, there is more to Muizenberg. Around the beach area, you’ll find plenty of surf shops, coffee shops, lovely restaurants, and great historical attractions for those who are interested in little more than just sand and waves.
Llandudno beach
4. Llandudno
You will find this beach location 20km south of Cape Town wedged between Hout Bay and Camps Bay. Another great spot for surfers to hit some waves or catch a swim if you are brave enough to conquer the icy water.
Llundudno is also a playground for the rich. You might spot a famous face on the balcony of one of the luxury homes.
Blouberg Beach
5. Blouberg
Similar to Clifton, Blouberg comprises a few different beaches – Dolphin Beach, Big Bay, and Small Bay. Blouberg is the best place to get a full look at Table Mountain and enjoy the long stretch of ocean. Blouberg is not shielded by boulders or any mountains and as a result, tends to become extremely windy but is a popular hotspot for kite and wind-suffers.
Whether you're heading to any of the best beaches in Cape Town for a suntan, a quick toe dip, or even to catch some waves you’ll always be in good company wearing your Plakkie flip flops.
